Jackhammering of New Walkway

December 6, 2006 - The Rotary Centennial Walkway (West Buffalo Creek Walkway) along Westhill is being jackhammered up after being opened to the public about a month ago. Numerous deviations from city specifications and ADA requirements were noted to Alden Nellis in a report to the City Council, Mayor, City Manager, TXDOT and the Department of Interior on November 17. See that report here.

During demolition, construction personnel and equipment damaged T posts and stretcher posts on private, posted property at 603 S. Walnut. The bobcat apparently slipped off the walkway onto private property, made a gash in the lawn, knocked over and bent one post, bent another post, and knocked the stretcher post out of alignment. Since the stretcher post is planted in two feet of concrete, it must have been quite a blow. A call to City Hall to report the damage netted a recording and no return phone call.
